Officer Rick Trabulsy talks with Julie Stitt, Volunteer Coordinator for the Mentors Plus Program within the Oakland County Youth Assistance in this edition of West Bloomfield 911. In the Mentors Plus Program, mentors make great differences in mentored childrens’ lives through a 1-year commitment to meet once a week with a young person. Mentored kids can be anywhere from 5-16 to enter, and go until 18 and have graduated high school. The mentors spend quality time with the young person they are paired with who may have need for a positive influence in their lives. Background checks are run on potential mentors, and an interview is conducted as well as a visit to their home. Ongoing training is provided for mentors, who can come from virtually any background. If you have an interest in becoming a mentor or have any questions about the program in Oakland County, call Mentors Plus at 248-858-0045. Officer Rick also draws attention to a fallen Special Agent who is honored, and turns the corner spotlight on a West Bloomfield Police dispatcher.
