More than $3.3 million in financial relief is being sent to 657 bars and restaurants across the state. Bars and restaurants have 90 days after emergency declarations are lifted to repurchase inventory and and pay back the Michigan Liquor Control Commission interest free through the liquor buy-back program. They can do this by simply selling their product in-store.

beaumont launches new clinical study on combo treatment for covid-19

Beaumont Health has received FDA approval to operate a new clinical trial at the Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. The clinical study will be aimed at treating COVID-19 patients with the drugs ketamine and naltrexone. The program is being called “SINK COVID-19 (Study of Immunomodulation using Naltrexone and Ketamine for COVID-19). Researches hope the drugs will lessen the severity of COVID-19 symptoms.

oakland county opens new covid-19 drive-thru testing site in novi

Honor Community Health is offering coronavirus testing from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. at the Novi Civic Center off 10 Mile Road. A prescription or doctor’s note is not necessary, but appointments are. Up to 250 tests are estimated to be possible per day at this new site, with results expected in only 24 to 48 hours. If you want to make an appointment call the Oakland County Health Division’s Nurse-on-Call hotline at 1-800-848-5533. The new site is the third drive-thru site in Oakland County.

as coronavirus eases, michigan hospitals ramp up more lucrative procedures

Some health care centers and hospitals have started to reschedule procedures that range between emergency cases and elective operations. “Time-sensitive” medical care runs the range from heart procedures to orthopedic fixes to biopsies to endoscopies and other diagnostic tests. For instance, Beaumont Health Hospital in Royal Oak just performed a spinal operation for a ruptured disc. It was the first time Dr. Jeffrey Fischgrund scrubbed in for surgery since March 16.

michigan congressman paul mitchell sues governor whitmer over handling of covid-19

Michigan State Representative Paul Mitchell is suing Governor Whitmer, believing her actions to be in violation of his constitutional rights. In the lawsuit Rep. Mitchell claims that Whitmer’s orders were initially intended to last until the state flattened the curve of COVID-19 cases. Mitchell is arguing that this flattening of the curve already happened in April. That, “the projected surge has not occurred, there is no basis, either legally or factually, to continue any further mandatory lock-down orders under criminal penalty.” Rep. senator mike shirkey says “heed governor whitmer’s covid orders now. we’ll sue later.”

Michigan State Senate Majortiy Leader Mike Shirkey wants to start a petition to repeal the 1945 law giving Michigan governor’s emergency authority. However this isn’t something he’s pushing for right now. Shirkey was quoted as saying, “Though frustrations are high, and they’re growing, let me be clear: I am not recommending that people ignore the governor’s executive orders.” Senator Shirkey is the first republican leader to publicly recommend continued compliance with Whitmer’s order. Last week the Legislature authorized Senator Shirkey and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield to take legal action against the governor, but they haven’t filed a lawsuit just yet.
