Cutting a path nearly four miles long, the girth of the tornado would later be estimated near 350-yards, or the length of 3 ½ football fields. Wind speeds from the tornado would later be calculated between 208-270 mph, determining its classification to be an EF4 on the Fujita scale and the strongest tornado to hit the area since 1950, a record it still holds 38-years later.
