Brian Peterson, Founder of Bees in the D, says that beekeepers will splice the top layers of the interior of hives out and use a special device to extract all of the honey as the bees work on lower layers in the hive. When complete, cleared sections of the hive can be returned, allowing the bees to produce more honey in those sections!
