Gretchen Whitmer Enacts Measures to Combat Inequality in Medicine | Press Conference, July 9, 2020

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun and others detail measures being taken to combat racial disparities in medical treatment in the State of Michigan and discuss the latest COVID-19 information at a press conference on July 9, 2020.

Governor Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Gilchrist, as well as guests from the state’s medical community, explained how the State is confronting racial disparities in medical resources and treatment, as well as new requirements for licensing of medical officials and suggestions for medical education to include training for implicit bias.

Additionally, Dr. Khaldun and Governor Whitmer covered the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the State of Michigan, and re-emphasized the requirement to wear masks in public places, urging civilians to take precautions seriously in order to prevent moving back into earlier phases of the MI Safe Start Plan, of which the majority of the State is currently in phase four.
