Gretchen Whitmer Introduces “Futures for Frontliners,” | Press Conference, April 29, 2020

Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in a press conference on Wednesday, April 29, announced a new program to give back to front line workers, and answered questions from the press regarding her administration’s response to COVID-19.

Governor Whitmer introduced the “Futures for Frontliners” program, a program that aims to provide college or certification programs to essential workers tuition-free. More information on this program is to be announced at a later time.

Additionally, the Governor addressed questions from the press regarding the State Legislature’s reported negotiation proposal for extending the State’s state of emergency, refusing to negotiate the pace of re-opening the state’s economy for the sake of public health.

Additionally, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Director Jeff Donofrio and Michigan AFL-CIO President Ron Bieber addressed the press.
